Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal-2 Set to Serve Both International and Domestic Flights. Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal-2 was till now operating only domestic flights.
A Dual-Purpose Terminal: Starting from 10.45 a.m. on Tuesday, T-2 will cater to both international and domestic flights, making it a versatile hub for air travel. This move is poised to streamline operations and enhance passenger convenience. It represents a significant milestone for KIA, offering an optimal and seamless transition for travelers.
Airlines Operating at T-2: The inaugural flight operations at T-2 will include international flights along with domestic flights operated by four prominent airlines: AirAsia, Air India, Star Air, and Vistara. These carriers are set to provide travelers with a world-class experience, whether they’re embarking on international adventures or domestic journeys.
Terminal-1 for Domestic Flights: While T-2 takes on its dual-role, Terminal-1 (T-1) will be exclusively dedicated to domestic flights. Travelers flying with Akasa Air, Alliance Air, Indigo, and SpiceJet will continue to use T-1 for their domestic travel needs. This separation of international and domestic operations ensures efficient service and passenger satisfaction.
A Change of Plans: Initially, T-2 was slated to commence international operations on August 31. However, a last-minute decision was made to postpone the launch. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) decided to delay the shift to T-2 to ensure an optimal and seamless transition for passengers. Subsequently, it was announced that international operations would commence from September 12.
T-2’s Impressive Features: Terminal-2, spanning an expansive 2,55,661 square meters, officially became operational on January 15, 2023. This state-of-the-art terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 11, 2022.
